More than one out of four people, age 65 and older, fall annually. Falls are likely to lead to long-term complications including hip fractures, decreased mobility, head injuries and even death. An individual’s quality of life and independence can be forever decreased due to a fall. Falls often cause a decline in self-care ability and participation in physical and social activities. Most falls are preventable and this topic is especially important in improving the quality of life for our senior population.

Fall Prevention Programs Offered:
Bingocize®
Bingocize® is a 10-week program that combines a bingo-like game with exercise and health education. The unique addition of bingo addresses many of the barriers to older adults’ participation because the game is fun, familiar, and done in a group setting. The program has been shown to increase older adults’ functional fitness, health knowledge, and social engagement in various settings. The overall goals of the program are to help older adults improve and/or maintain mobility and independence, learn and use health information focused on fall reduction and other health-related behaviors, and socially engage with other older adults. Fall Prevention Toolkit
Our Fall Prevention toolkit provides seniors with tools and tips to help decrease their risk of falling. These kits are available as part of our attendance and presentations at senior-related community events and with our Fall Prevention booth.
Please note the following criteria to be met to receive a Fall Prevention Toolkit: Recipient must be 55+ and live in the Hampton Roads area and will be asked to provide full contact details.

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Injury Prevention offers a community presentation that delivers strategies to reduce the risk of falling. We help you identify simple ways to lower your fall risk by things such as reviewing common tripping hazards in the home and helping you identify medications that may be increasing your fall risk. Request to have the Fall Prevention Education Presentation at your community event by filling out our Injury Prevention Information Form.
