What is return-to-work rehabilitation?

Return-to-work rehabilitation (also known as industrial rehabilitation) typically includes a range of therapies designed to support a smooth transition back to the workplace They include strength training, cardiovascular conditioning, job-specific training and more.

Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)

Our trained therapists evaluate your readiness to return to work. We use the Joule standardized system to test an employee's maximum ability to handle materials, tolerate repetitive activities and maintain positions.

We also use standardized metrics and customized procedures to match individual job circumstances. During testing, we monitor employee-reported pain levels and can also evaluate your ability to meet cognitive demands on the job.

On-site worker analysis

Our specialists visit the worksite to observe you while you perform job tasks. We check your movements and posture to recommend specific changes to reduce the risk of injury and improve safety.

Pre-work conditioning

We conduct pre-work screenings to learn whether you can perform a job safely.

Work conditioning

Sentara specialists offer personalized training to help build strength, endurance and aerobic capacity to get you ready to return to work. 

We also create job simulation tasks to help prepare you to return to the physical demands of your job. Depending on your unique needs, we may recommend additional physical therapy or occupational therapy.
