Sentara Therapy Center - Neuro Rehab

Sentara Therapy Center for Neuro Rehab offers outpatient occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy and nursing services to patients who have suffered a life-altering neurological injury or disorder, such as:

• Brain Tumors
• Guillain-Barre Syndrome
• Multiple Sclerosis
• Parkinson’s Disease
• Spinal Cord Injuries
• Strokes (CVA) and aneurysms
• Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI)

The clinical care team consists of occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, registered nurses, clinical exercise specialists, and social workers who coordinate their areas of expertise in order to address the patient’s specific functional goals. Family members are encouraged to participate in therapy sessions to reinforce and incorporate therapy techniques at home. This team is dedicated to helping patients achieve their highest level of independence and function.

Occupational therapy

• Activities of daily living retraining in our ADL kitchen, bathroom and laundry room
• Cognitive rehabilitation
• Gross and fine motor coordination activities for upper extremities
• Range of motion and strengthening for upper extremities
• Visual perception training

Physical therapy

• Amputee rehab
• Balance retraining
• Community reintegration
• Concussion therapy
• Fall prevention and education
• Gait training utilizing high-tech, 90-ft. unweighting track system
• Pulmonary patient physical therapy
• Range of motion and strengthening for lower extremities
• Rehab for pulmonary patients and diagnoses
• Sensory re-integration – including use of standing frame
• Spinal cord rehab – with specialized equipment including the ERGYS bike
• Vestibular therapy and post-concussion rehab
• Wheelchair assessments

Speech therapy

• Cognitive-communication therapy
• Dysphagia swallowing services, including Modified Barium Swallow assessments and retraining
• Respiratory retraining
