Dr. Herre earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, in 1977. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals, where he also completed fellowship training in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. Dr. Herre developed the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology program at Sentara Norfolk General hospital in 1988 and practiced electrophysiology until 2016. He participated in the development of Advanced Heart Failure, Cardiac Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support Programs at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and serves as its Medical Director. His focus is on managing advanced heart failure, including evaluation, drug therapy, mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation. Dr. Herre is the Medical Director of the Cardiology Division of Sentara Health Research and maintains an active interest in device and medical therapy -for heart failure and cardiac rhythm disorders. He has authored greater then 100 papers in the areas of heart failure and electrophysiology. Dr. Herre is Board-Certified in Internal Medicine, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology and Cardiovascular Disease. He is a Professor of Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He also serves as Chair of the First Tuesday Institutional Review Board, Chairman of the Board of Directors of LifeNet Health and serves on many national committees. Dr. Herre is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Physicians. He is also a member of the Heart Failure Society, the American College of Cardiology and the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
