When to seek treatment
Make an appointment to see your healthcare provider if you have repeated, sudden, severe, or long-lasting dizziness or vertigo.
However, get emergency medical care if you have new, severe dizziness or vertigo along with any of the following:
- Chest pain
- Change in vision or speech
- Fainting or loss of alertness for more than a few minutes
- Fever over 101°F (38.3°C), headache or very stiff neck
- Head injury
- Irregular heart rate (heart skips beats)
- Seizures
- Shortness of breath
- Weakness or inability to move an arm or leg
