Preparing for your surgery
The patient navigator is available to answer your questions. To prepare for your upcoming surgery, please visit our education page to download your Patient and Family Guidebook, watch the preoperative (pre-op) education video or find a class to attend.
Our pre-op education will set you up for success before and after surgery. You will learn:
- How to prepare for your upcoming procedure
- Prepare your home for your recovery
- Exercises to do before and after surgery
- And more
Medical Clearance Exam
A medical clearance exam is required before your joint replacement surgery. At Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, your primary care provider (PCP) performs your medical clearance exam. If you are required to go to a specialist such as a cardiologist, nephrologist or pulmonologist, you will be informed.
A nurse in our Preoperative Anesthesia and Surgical Screening (PASS) Clinic will call you to review your medical history and medications. They will also review the needed lab work and provide you with information on where to get it.
Arriving for surgery
When you arrive, proceed to the hospital's main entrance. Once you enter, please walk past the large water fountain and check-in at the registration desk. Once checked in, you will take the elevators to the second floor and take a left into the surgery waiting area.
