Our hospital registered dietitians provide medical nutrition therapy for a wide variety short- and long-term medical conditions with an added focus on identifying and preventing malnutrition. Dietitians screen all patients admitted to the hospital and prioritize care to those most at nutritional risk. Registered dietitians work closely with the medical team to help optimize nutrition care for patients to achieve better outcomes for healing.Outpatient Nutrition Counseling
Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center offers individual nutrition counseling sessions with a referral from a physician. Outpatient dietitians work with you to develop realistic, sustainable goals to manage or improve your condition. We also offer telehealth appointments, group sessions and classes.

Diabetes Care
People newly diagnosed or those with history of diabetes, may benefit from meeting with a Sentara diabetes care and education specialist. Sentara offers diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) in group and one on one settings. DSMES will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to manage your diabetes and related conditions. Education is centered around your personal goals and life experiences and may include nutrition management, blood glucose monitoring, stress management and short- and long-term complication prevention.
