Pre-registering is a great first step to begin your journey with Sentara. This allows you to share important information with providers, including your birth preferences. Once you've pre-registered, you can sign in to Sentara MyChart any time of day to:

Our Family Maternity Center features:
- 24-hour coverage by board-certified obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists and advanced practitioners
- 11 private rooms for labor, delivery and recovery with ample space for one adult support person to spend the night
- Four private triage rooms, two operating rooms and a recovery room
- 24 private postpartum rooms
- A Specialty Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- MyChart Bedside Messaging allows the parents of the baby to communicate with the care team through a messaging application during the baby's inpatient stay
- Volunteer doula support services, as available
- Minimal separation of healthy newborns and parents
Our Specialty Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is located on the second floor of our center and equipped with all-private rooms, including special rooms for twins. We designed the space to enhance natural light for a peaceful and quiet environment that fosters family bonding and privacy.

Education is a key part of your birthing journey, which is why our Family Maternity Center offers classes to prepare you for birth, taking care of baby and everything in between.
When you arrive at the hospital, follow the signs for Maternity and park on the second floor of the parking garage. We're located at the rear of the hospital on the second floor.
Follow the signs to the Family Maternity Center and look for the check-in window. Once you have arrived, you will register with the front desk team and be shown to a room for evaluation.
The Family Maternity Center is a secured department. All visitors need to present a photo ID and be prepared to have a picture taken to create a visitor pass. We require visitors to wear the pass while in the department.
Our postpartum support group meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month, from 6:30 PM - 8 PM. No registration is required.
We offer breastfeeding support from our certified lactation team 7 days a week, including:
- A breastfeeding information line, which can be reached at 757-388-6455
- Outpatient lactation consults: To request an appointment, call 757-507-6569 or email LactationAtSPAH@sentara.com
- A weekly Breastfeeding Support Group: Meets every Monday, 10:30 AM - 12 PM. No registration is required!
