The Sentara Albemarle Medical Center Emergency Department (ED) is responsible for the immediate treatment of any medical or surgical emergency, for initiating life-saving procedures in all types of emergency situations, and for providing emergency care for everything from complex medical problems to minor injuries and illnesses.
At the Sentara Albemarle Medical Center Emergency Department (ED), some patients are treated in the main ED, while others with less serious illnesses or injuries are treated in a separate area called Focus Care. ED patients are treated in order of priority in each of these separate areas, based upon a triage assessment performed by an RN.
