Sentara welcomes Adam Holyk as organization’s first chief consumer officer
Adam Holyk steps into his role as Chief Consumer Officer, driven by his limitless curiosity to better understand Sentara Health’s consumers and how to uniquely meet each consumer where they are on their individual healthcare journey.
“It all begins with listening to our consumers, patients and members to learn about what is happening in their lives, their needs and motivations,” Holyk said. “Sentara shares my belief that delivering the highest levels of clinical excellence and quality care, combined with personalize, consumer-friendly, seamless healthcare experiences can meaningfully improve health outcomes.”
As Sentara’s Chief Consumer Officer, Holyk will shape the organization’s consumer experience strategy, enhance customer loyalty, and support the successful implementation of the One Sentara transformation.
Sentara Health is a not-for-profit integrated delivery system of 12 hospitals, hundreds of sites of care, and the Sentara Health Plans division that serve more than 1 million people. Sentara’s consumers include medical patients, health insurance members, and community members located in Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida.

During his time at Walgreens, Holyk held various leadership positions, including Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, where he spearheaded the successful repositioning and relaunching of the Walgreens brand. Previously, he led corporate strategy across global markets, and earlier in his tenure leveraged consumer insights to build customer loyalty.
Holyk earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Guelph, a Master of Business Administration from York University, and a Juris Doctor degree from Osgoode Hall Law School, all located in Ontario, Canada.
Holyk started as Chief Consumer Officer in May. In just the first few weeks on the job, Holyk said he’s impressed with how dedicated his Sentara colleagues are to their mission of improving health every day.
“Everyone's commitment to the mission is so inspiring,” Holyk said. “It is truly a privilege to be able to join this dedicated team of caring colleagues."
