Sentara Community Care extends its reach to Henrico County, Virginia
Sentara Community Care has opened a new center in Henrico County, Virginia, the program’s first brick-and-mortar location in the Richmond area.
Now serving five regions across the Commonwealth of Virginia, Sentara Community Care continues to advance its purpose to expand access to care and improve total health and wellness in the communities that need it most.
The new Sentara Community Care Center in Henrico County offers comprehensive primary care, pediatric care, prenatal care, behavioral health, addiction medicine, and social care services; a community food pantry; and greater access to essential community resources – all in one location.
The new center serves Sentara Health Plans’ Medicaid members and uninsured individuals, and the adjoining food pantry is open to all community members.
Sentara Community Care’s innovative healthcare model – which launched in 2022 – offers neighborhood-level access to holistic care in communities with the greatest needs and largest gaps in care.
The program’s goal is to reduce traditional barriers to health and wellness by maximizing convenience and providing consistent, embedded medical and wrap-around services in neighborhoods that have historically lacked access and face health disparities and statistically worse health outcomes.
Through a multifaceted approach encompassing community care centers, mobile care vehicles, school-based telehealth clinics, and strategic partnerships, Sentara has made significant strides in bringing hope and healing closer to home.
“We are thrilled to deepen our partnership within the Henrico community as we work to address social drivers of health and increase access to care,” said Colin Drozdowski, executive vice president of Sentara Health and president of Sentara Health Plans.
“In addition to providing direct medical care at our Henrico center, we are collaborating with community partners to connect patients with essential resources to help address other challenges that affect their health, including housing, transportation, and access to nutritious food.”
A Sentara Mobile Care vehicle is already serving neighborhoods in Petersburg, Virginia, and the greater Richmond area, traveling directly to the communities with the greatest needs to ensure that healthcare isn't a burden, but a readily available resource.
“I am pleased that Sentara is dedicating their time, talent, and care team to drive greater access to care for community members in Henrico and surrounding areas,” said Virginia Senator Lamont Bagby.
“I am optimistic that Sentara’s high-quality services, strengthened through their community partnerships, will create a positive change in the health of Virginians.”
