Melinda Hancock

Melinda Hancock is responsible for all centralized financial operations at Sentara. These centralized functions include Accounting and Actuarial services, Financial Planning and Analysis, Revenue Cycle operations, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement and Managed Care Contracting.

Melinda is also responsible for managing Sentara’s overall capital structure and its treasury function, which includes cash management, oversight of all investment portfolios, and capital funding strategies.

Prior Experience

Melinda joined Sentara in August 2021 as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, before transitioning to Executive Vice President, Chief Transformation Officer in May 2023.

Prior to Sentara, Melinda was the Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Financial Officer at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Health System, where she made significant contributions to advance its infrastructure, which included programs that helped to improve the patient experience and the health of vulnerable populations.

Prior to her time at VCU Health, she was a partner with Dixon Hughes Goodman, LLP (DHG) where she helped lead the payment model team to develop products related to the transformation of volume-based reimbursement to value-based reimbursement.

Melinda also previously worked as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the Virginia market of Bon Secours Health System. Hancock's career prior to Bon Secours included eight years at Culpeper Regional Hospital and experience as a healthcare consultant and auditor with Ernst & Young and Deloitte.
