Driving simulator testing
If you're a patient with excessive daytime sleepiness, we can measure your ability to perform a computer-simulated driving test. Comparing the results to other drivers helps us determine the risk you face when driving. The driving simulator also helps to measure sleep treatments. This test is available at the Sentara Fort Norfolk Sleep Center.
Insomnia evaluation
Our board-certified sleep specialists evaluate your insomnia, determining potential causes and treatments.
Maintenance of wakefulness test (MWT)
With this test, we assess your ability to maintain alertness during sleep-inducing or boring conditions.
Multiple sleep latency test (MSLT)
Often used to diagnose narcolepsy, this test evaluates your ability to resist staying awake or the urge to fall asleep. Your testing will include a series of daytime naps and generally follows an overnight sleep study. With a MSLT, we can determine how long it takes you to fall asleep. We may also conduct a driving simulator test as part of this assessment.
Overnight sleep study
This all-night, outpatient study involves recording various functions such as heart rate, breathing, brain activity and limb movement as you sleep. Some of our studies may include positive airway pressure (CPAP or BI-PAP) or an oral/dental appliance.
Pediatric sleep studies
We conduct these overnight sleep studies with equipment specially fitted for children. Parents spend the night with their child.
Portable home monitoring
This home sleep study is an abbreviated version of our overnight sleep study, monitoring various components of your sleep while you are at home.
