Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Treatment (HBOT)
HBOT uses a hyperbaric oxygen chamber to produce high levels of oxygen in the blood. You enter the high-pressure chamber for about two hours while our specialists monitor you.
In the chamber, you breathe pure oxygen in an environment that’s two to three times more pressurized than normal air pressure. You might feel the same feeling in your ears that you feel on an airplane or when driving through the mountains.
You can watch television, listen to music or take a nap during your treatment. Your doctor must refer you for hyperbaric oxygen treatment.
Conditions We Treat With Hyperbaric Oxygen
We use hyperbaric oxygen to treat wounds and sores that don’t heal. We also use HBOT to treat:
- Bone and skin infections
- Burns
- Carbon monoxide poisoning
- Crush injuries
- Decompression sickness (the "bends" resulting from a decrease in air pressure)
- Radiation injuries and sores
- Traumatic brain injury
Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy helps increase the amount of oxygen your lungs can take in. Your blood circulates the extra oxygen, helping your body release substances that help with healing. These substances include growth factors (proteins that stimulate growth) and stem cells (cells that turn into different types of blood cells)
HBOT encourages new skin cells and connective tissue to form by stimulating the growth of new blood vessels. This therapy also helps keep injured tissues from swelling.
